1. Lý thuyết về Phrasal Verb
1.1 Phrasal Verb là gì?
Theo định nghĩa thông thường, một cụm từ gồm một động từ + một giới từ (preposition) hay trạng từ (adverb) và có chức năng giống như một động từ trong câu. Phrasal Verb (Cụm động từ) đây một dạng tiếng Anh mà bạn học thường xuyên gặp trong các câu cấu trúc tiếng Anh. Cụm động từ sẽ tạo nên câu văn hoàn toàn khác biệt so với động từ tạo nên nó.
Bên cạnh đó, nó còn mang lại sự logic, linh hoạt và tác động hơn là chỉ sử dụng các động từ tương tự. Ngoài ra, có một số cụm động từ cố định nhất định phải được sử dụng để mang lại một ý nghĩa cụ thể cho câu.
1.2 Cấu tạo của Phrasal Verb
Cụm động từ được cấu tạo nên từ hai hoặc ba thành phần, trong đó thường có 3 kiểu tiêu biểu:
- Sự kết hợp giữa động từ (verb) – giới từ (preposition)
- Sự kết hợp giữa động từ (verb) – trạng từ (adverb)
- Sự kết hợp giữa động từ (verb) – trạng từ (adverb) – giới từ (preposition)
1.3 Các loại Phrasal Verb
- Nội động từ (Intransitive phrasal verbs): Cụm động từ có chức năng là nội động từ và không có tân ngữ theo sau
- Cụm động từ chuyển tiếp không tách rời (Non-separable transitive phrasal verbs): là những cụm động từ, ở đó các thành phần không thể tách rời nhau và có chức năng giống như ngoại động từ (phải có tân ngữ kèm theo).
- Cụm động từ chuyển tiếp có thể tách rời (Optionally separable transitive phrasal verbs): Cụm động từ ở loại này có chức năng là ngoại động từ và nó có thể tách rời hay không tách rời các thành phần trong cụm động từ.
