1. Định nghĩa về tiền tố và hậu tố
- Tiền tố – Prefix hay Tiếp đầu ngữ là một chữ cái hoặc một nhóm chữ cái kết hợp với nhau xuất hiện ở đầu một từ mà làm thay đổi nghĩa gốc của từ.
- Hậu tố – Suffix hay Tiếp vị ngữ là một chữ cái hoặc một nhóm chữ cái kết hợp với nhau thường được thêm vào cuối từ để thực hiện chức năng ngữ pháp của câu
Ví dụ: từ Agree
- Từ gốc agree – chấp thuận.
- Tiền tố ngữ dis- có nghĩa là không: disagree – không chấp thuận
- Hậu tố -ment có nghĩa là sự việc…: agreement – sự chấp thuận
2. Tiền tố trong tiếng Anh
Tiền tố được thêm vào trước từ gốc để ra được một từ mới mang nghĩa trái ngược hoặc mang một nghĩa khác. Nó không những làm thay đổi ý nghĩa của từ mà tiền tố còn làm thay đổi loại từ (danh từ, tính từ, động từ, trạng từ)
